What do you do with your time when you’re stranded in a small town on an island at the end of the world, uncertain of when or how you’ll get back to where you’re supposed to be?

Fortunately for me, I’d just met one of the knowledgeable people in the world on the exact niche I was researching—the 19th century Anglican missionaries in Tierra del Fuego. His personal library included an extensive collection of hard-to-find materials, and he was willing to share them with me.

Not only that, but he and his partner, Perla, generously fed me dinner the day I arrived and offered me a place to stay so I didn’t have to find my way to the hostel in the dark.
